Two RH3 Football Academy players are taking part in trials to select Fiji’s national squad to compete at this year’s OFC U-16 Championship in Tahiti.

Reef Douglas (15) and Ryan Achari (15) play for Hamilton Wanderers in the Lotto NRFL U-17 TDP League and have travelled to Fiji for the final trials before the squad is selected.

“I’m delighted for both of them,” RH3 academy founder Ricki Herbert said.

“They work hard at their game and I’m pleased they’re getting opportunities such as this.”

Both players have attended the academy for a number of years, travelling to tournaments and taking part in tours.

The trials at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa are being attended by 40 players, of which 36 have been sourced from local competitions.

Douglas and Achari are among four overseas-based players invited to participate.

“They will all go through the selection process, and the final squad will be named after a weeks camp in Suva,” U-16 head coach Sunil Kumar said.

Kumar said the final squad of 26 will go into camp on June 15 at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.

‘’We will have a month to prepare the team for the OFC U-16 Championship which will be held in Tahiti from July 28-August 10.”

The winners of the OFC U-16 Championship qualify to represent Oeania at the next FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup.
